looks like my MBP graphics card decided to it just didn't want to live on this planet anymore and died a not-so-spectactular death.
so Apple has my 'deck right now and because, apparently, this is SO rare (which is a load of crapola, because EVERY MBP, all six of the ones i've owned, have had graphics cards issues) so it will take 2 days for the part to come in and another 5 days to repair it.

not.  happy.  and just as i was about to upload a render i accidentally made of the Lovell fav.me/d7j6v53 which would have shown exactly how far down the rabbit hole i've fallen.
